About
Why am I writing this blog? Well, I’ve been vegetarian for 14 years and vegan for almost 8 of those years. Being vegan is important part of who I am. I’m also someone who has struggled with food issues and weight issues and health issues in the past. (I was all about the issues.) But right now, I feel like I’ve finally hit my stride – I eat well (usually!), I exercise, and I feel better than I ever have before.
Why is my health so important to me? A few reasons. One is that I feel like taking good care of myself (or trying to) helps me to be the strong, compassionate vegan I aim to be. Another is that I turned 30 this year, and it really has been hitting me how what I do now it terms of eating habits, exercise, etc., can affect my health both now and later in life. And yet another is that I want to prove how beneficial being vegan is – sort of an “in your face” statement to the rude and snarky assumptions some people make when they find out someone is vegan.
Who am I? I’m a 30-year-old vegan. I live in Virginia with my vegetarian husband and our two rescued kitties. My husband and I both teach high school, which needless to say lands us in some interesting conversations with students who find out about the vegan/vegetarian stuff. I love to run, read, and garden. But not at the same time.
